With his expertise and impressive background in the legal field, Fatih Özdemir became YASED International Investors Association's first Coordinator from the legal sector at the beginning of this year.
Fatih Özdemir's professional journey is distinguished by his expertise in areas such as Energy Law, IT Law, Administrative Law, Corporate Law, and Compliance. He has navigated complex legal landscapes, serving reputable organizations with distinction. Before joining YASED, he held the position of Legal Counsel at TotalEnergies (OYAK Enerji), Petrol Ofisi, Getir and BiTaksi, where he demonstrated his legal acumen and dedication.
Fatih Özdemir is actively involved in legal scholarship. He regularly authors articles, delivers lectures, presentations, and interviews, contributing to the evolving legal discourse. His commitment extends to advancing new areas of law and elevating the role of in-house legal and compliance counsel to a specialised profession.
Damlanur İpek, Compliance Specialist and Legal Counsel at SOCAR Türkiye
"I have worked in the compliance field, with a focus on data privacy, both in my current company and in my previous company. In my previous company, Digiturk – beIN Media Group, one of the largest TMT companies in Turkey, I worked on ensuring compliance with the data protection regulations, as well as decisions made by the ICTA, and RTSC. I was directly responsible for the personal data of approximately 4.5 million customers. In addition, ensuring the compliance of DigiEuro, which operates in Germany, where GDPR was one of my main responsibilities.
Currently, I am working in the compliance field, with a focus on data privacy, at SOCAR. I am working on ensuring compliance with data protection regulations for SOCAR’s overseas operations. In addition, ensuring that the operations carried out at the Star Refinery, Turkey’s largest direct foreign investment, are carried out in compliance with EMRA decisions is one of my job responsibilities. We have group companies operating in sectors such as insurance, ISP, natural gas, and more within SOCAR Turkey. As the legal team of the head office, we are responsible for ensuring that all companies comply with the legislation. We also have a monopoly in natural gas service in two cities in Turkey. Throughout all these processes, I take on the responsibility of ensuring compliance with sector regulations, including data privacy, and the data I manage in just the natural gas sector alone is 2.5 million."
Fatih Aydoğan, Founding and Managing Partner at AESY Legal
Since completing his Bachelor of Laws, Master of Laws and Doctor of Law at İstanbul University, Dr. Aydoğan has been involved in legal practice for 20 years. He is an expert in areas of company law, family business, M&A, banking-finance, restructuring, insurance, capital markets, competition, and logistics.
For nearly seven years Dr. Aydoğan has been an education consultant for İstanbul Girişimcilik Kulübü, a counsellor for over nine years with İstanbul Ticaret Borsası, a board member of TMA Türkiye-FOYDER and a member of Circular Law Global Alliance.
Serpil Özcan, Managing Partner at AESY Legal
Serpil Özcan graduated from Marmara University Law School in 2003 and completed her master’s studies at Kadir Has University in 2018.
With over 20 years of legal experience, she is currently a partner at AESY Legal. Mrs. Özcan specializes in various areas, including litigation and dispute resolution, medical law, press and media law, labor and social security law, GDPR process management, contract law, corporate governance, and commercial and corporate law.Serpil Özcan actively contributes to legal education as a guest lecturer in the GDPR Training Program at Özyeğin University. She has also been a mediator since 2022.
Başak Gürbüz, Lead Regional Counsel, Visa
I am the Lead Regional Counsel in Visa’s Southern Europe cluster covering Turkiye, Israel, Greece, Malta, and Cyprus. I am a member of the Legal, Ethics, and Compliance team, principally focusing on commercial law matters as well as product-related matters. I am also guiding our teams on other fields of law (e.g., data privacy, regulatory and competition law) via cooperation with the London Hub Legal Team.
